We are still going to have to support/focus/help other areas but this is where we need to put the most time and attention. Strategy is not about saying Yes to one thing to the exclusion of all others. “Strategy is a pattern of allocating resources.”Ī strategy misconception is that we’re narrowing everything down to only one segment and nothing else. My bugbear is too much time spent obsessing about defining the right goal metric. The beauty of proximate goals is to go in the right direction and get on with them. It is true that they are helpful, but you often get stuck with statements like “we need more data (!)” which is a waste of time. Proximate goals - people can spend way too much time to come with measurements. There are two parts in the book that I keep going back to::Ĭoherent action - This is not about labels for all the things you have to do but a set of coordinated actions that support each other. The important thing here is that it should not just be aspirational goal setting. The best resource here is the book Good Strategy, Bad Strategy. It was my coach that helped me realise that some of the things I choose to do need to be because they give me energy and make me smile (for me that is brand & product). I am constantly auditing my time and figuring out where I can be most effective as CEO. What’s important as well is to take time to do things that you enjoy, simply because you like doing them.
#CULTURE AMP SERIES SERIES#
The fresh round gives the business a US1.5 billion (A2.02bn) valuation, double its worth since 2019’s US82 million (AU121m) in series E. I recognise that I don’t do enough preparation before meetings which isn’t great as it doesn’t allow time and space to think through the topics. Employee engagement platform Culture Amp has raised US100 million (A135m) in a series F that doubles the tech startup’s valuation to 2 billion in just two years. I try to keep meeting time under half of my week, as an example at a 50h week, you’re trying to get below 25h in meetings. Home Culture Amp secures 6.3 million in Series A funding from three different VCs in three different countries Culture Amp CEO and co-founder Didier. Most CEOs spend 20% time travelling and 60% in meetings. That being said I spend less than ⅓ of my time on these. If I had to boil it down, here are the three things care most about: I like doing sales and marketing, thinking about product and love HR.

There are not that many parts that I don’t enjoy.

I am largely across product and sales and happily spend time with the other departments. Get insights, actionable ideas, and category-defining strategies from real-life HR professionals and industry experts. I am interested in and engaged in all aspects of the business. It varies over time and depends on the exec roles you have at your company. It is very hard to know whether I have spent my time well. I’ll answer with a reflection on my time as a CEO.Īs the company gets bigger, there’s less and less that you have to do.Įarly on it is easy to determine what has to be done like customer calls, writing code, etc.Īs the company scales, there are things I have to do like board meetings, but I have the ability to decide what I should and want to work on.
